If the wife grants her husband permission to be absent from her for more than six months, then there is no harm. However, if she does not grant permission, then it is not permissible for him to do so unless there is a genuine excuse preventing him from returning, such as fearing the loss of his job, which he uses to pay off his debts. In this case, there is no sin upon him, and he must strive to shorten the period of absence or find a way to visit her.
