If a person breaks their fast unintentionally: if they were ignorant of the legal ruling, then it is preferable to make up the fast to avoid disagreement. If they forgot, their fast is valid according to the majority, unless they did not abstain from things that break the fast, in which case they must make it up. If they were sick and unable, they must make up the fast, and there is no sin upon them. If they swallowed something unintentionally, their fast is not invalidated, and they do not have to make it up.
