What is the detailed meaning of the noble verse: {O Prophet, when you [Muslims] divorce women, divorce them for [the commencement of] their waiting period and keep count of the waiting period. And fear Allah, your Lord. Do not expel them from their houses, nor should they leave, unless they commit a clear immorality. And those are the limits of Allah. And whoever transgresses the limits of Allah has certainly wronged himself} with illustrative examples?

"O Prophet, when you [men] divorce women": meaning, if you intend to divorce them, "then divorce them for [the commencement of] their waiting period": meaning, during a period of purity in which he has not had intercourse with her. "And keep count of the waiting period": meaning, remember its duration so that you can revoke the divorce. "And fear Allah, your Lord": meaning, obey Him. "Do not turn them out of their houses": meaning, do not expel the divorced woman from her husband's house until her waiting period has ended. "Nor should they themselves go forth unless they commit an overt indecency": meaning, unless they cause harm with foul language and bad character, or commit an indecency such as adultery. "And whoever transgresses the limits of Allah has certainly wronged himself": meaning that whoever transgresses the limits of Allah and expels the divorced wife, or she leaves, has committed a sin. Allah has legislated divorce during a period of purity in which her husband has not touched her because if he divorces her during menstruation, her waiting period will be prolonged, and if he divorces her while she is pure and not pregnant, he is safe from her carrying his child.
