Is it permissible to invoke blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) before drinking water, with the intention of drinking from his noble hand at the Basin, or is that an innovation?

Praying upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) is a great act of devotion. However, the Sunnah specifies a particular remembrance when drinking, which is only mentioning the name of Allah Almighty, and it is not appropriate to add anything to it, because adding would be a deviation from the Sunnah. When sneezing, the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us to say "Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal" (Praise be to Allah in every state) only, and adding the salutation (peace be upon him) to it is not commendable, because each remembrance has its specific place. Although praying upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) is among the best deeds, it is not prescribed in situations specifically designated for the remembrance of Allah, such as eating, drinking, and sneezing. What is required is adherence [to the Sunnah] and avoidance of innovation, along with abundant and unconditional praying upon the Prophet (peace be upon him).
