Is it the case that everyone who differs from Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah on a fundamental principle should not be learned from, and is it permissible for a beginner student of knowledge to listen to scholars who possess goodness, even if senior scholars of al-Jarh wal-Ta'deel have warned against them due to their knowledge of their defect?

Sheikh Ibn Uthaymin advises the student of knowledge not to preoccupy himself with issues of takfir (declaring someone an infidel), tabdi' (declaring someone an innovator), fisq (declaring someone a transgressor), and disputes among youth. He also advises him not to focus on the mistakes of scholars, but rather to direct his efforts towards seeking knowledge and acting upon it. He emphasizes accepting the truth from anyone who speaks it, even if they are a disbeliever or a transgressor, while rejecting falsehood. As for one who opposes Ahl al-Sunnah (the People of the Sunnah) in the fundamentals of creed, knowledge should not be taken from him unless the student of knowledge is not affected by his innovation, and provided that there is no Sunni scholar available to fulfill the need.
