What is the origin of the word "yan'iq" and its derivatives and meanings?

The meaning of "yan'iqu" (ينعق) is to shout or cry out. Its origin comes from the shepherd's call (na'eeq) to his sheep, meaning his shouting and chiding of them. From this comes the Hadith: "The last to be gathered are two shepherds from Muzaynah who want to go to Medina, shouting at their sheep." And from it is the Almighty's saying: "And the example of those who disbelieve is like that of one who shouts at what hears nothing but calls and cries."
