How many Prophets and Messengers are there in total? And is there a noble Hadith that indicates that?
Allah Almighty sent to every nation a Warner from among them, and sent Muhammad (peace be upon him) to all mankind. The Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned that the number of prophets is one hundred and twenty-four thousand, and the number of messengers is three hundred and fifteen.
Twenty-five prophets and messengers are mentioned in the Holy Quran; eighteen of them in Al-An'am, and the rest (Adam, Hud, Salih, Shu'ayb, Idris, Dhul-Kifl, and Muhammad) in various surahs. Four of these prophets were Arabs: Hud, Salih, Shu'ayb, and Muhammad.
The pure specified the names of prophets who were not mentioned in the Holy Quran, such as Seth and Joshua son of Nun. There is a difference of opinion regarding the prophethood of three individuals mentioned in the Quran: Dhul-Qarnayn and Tubba' (and it is preferable to refrain from affirming their prophethood). As for Al-Khidr, the preponderant view is that he was a prophet.
