What is the ruling on refraining from visiting relatives to avoid shaking hands with non-mahram women, and is that considered extremism in religion?

Whoever pleases Allah, even if it displeases people, Allah will be pleased with him and make people pleased with him. And whoever pleases people, even if it displeases Allah, Allah will be displeased with him and make people displeased with him. There is no harm in refraining from visiting relatives for fear of falling into sin or being exposed to criticism, if it is possible to maintain kinship ties without visiting. However, if maintaining kinship ties depends on visiting, then it is obligatory to visit them while refraining from shaking hands with non-mahram women.
