What is the ruling regarding a husband's statement to his wife: "You are divorced, and every time you become lawful to me, you will be unlawful again if you go to this event or to a specific group of people"?

Scholars have differed on the ruling concerning a man's statement to his wife: "Every time you become permissible, you become forbidden." The Malikis distinguished based on his intention:

1. If he intended that every time the marriage contract with her is dissolved, she becomes forbidden, then nothing is binding upon him. 2. If he intended that every time he marries her, she is forbidden, then she is never permissible for him.

If he did not intend either of these, then it is understood according to the second meaning.

As for the Shafi'is, they hold that he is liable for one divorce if consummation has occurred, unless he intended repeated divorce.
