How does one differentiate between narrators who share similar names and kunyas within the isnads?

To ascertain the intended narrator when names in the chain of transmission (sanad) are similar, it is recommended to compile all routes of the hadith and consult the commentaries. If the ambiguity persists, one should resort to biographical dictionaries (kutub al-tarajim) to meticulously examine the birth and death years, place of residence, and the students and teachers of each narrator. If doubt remains, then one must delve deeply into the narrator's relationship with his teacher and student, as distinguishing clues may emerge, such as the narrator's specialization with a particular teacher, or his frequent narration from one teacher over another, or his being from the same locality as his teacher.
