Is it obligatory to make up the days of not fasting in Ramadan due to masturbation, out of ignorance of its ruling, with another Ramadan having begun, or is there nothing upon him?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Whoever engages in masturbation in Ramadan has invalidated his fast and must make up for it, unless he was ignorant of the prohibition of that act, in which case he is not required to make up for it. However, if he was aware of its prohibition but ignorant of its consequences, he is required to make up for it. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen said: "If someone commits a forbidden act, knowing its prohibition but ignorant of its consequences, neither the sin nor the consequences of his action are waived from him."
