What is the ruling on the divorce and vow of a man who became angry due to his lack of concentration while looking at a woman unlawful to him?
Whoever utters the words of divorce or a vow, willingly and comprehending what he says, then his divorce takes effect and his vow becomes binding, provided its conditions are met. As for whoever utters them without free will or comprehension, due to obsessive whispering (waswasah) or anger, then neither takes effect. A Muslim must repent, lower his gaze, seek Allah’s help, and strive against his own self, rather than using oaths and vows.
