A husband must treat his wife kindly and not strike her. If he does strike her, it should be a non-brutal striking for a Shar'i (Islamically lawful) reason. The wife must be patient and should not seek divorce unless there is a grave necessity, to avoid the prophetic warning. The wife's family should not interfere to cause discord between the spouses. If the wife is harmed by her husband's striking her, she has the right to seek divorce. Since the divorce has occurred and the matter has been referred to the court, the court is the authority. Everyone is advised to reconcile and repent. The spouses should review the possibility of returning to the marital state in accordance with Sharia.
