Is Najashi considered a Companion (Sahabi) or a Successor (Tabi'i)?

The Negus was a Tabi'i (successor) who embraced Islam during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet performed the funeral prayer for him in absentia. He was not considered a Companion because he never met the Prophet. Amr ibn al-As embraced Islam through him, so it was said: "A Companion embraced Islam at the hands of a Tabi'i."
