The ruling on adding a wine flavor to coffee depends on its reality:
- If the flavor is actually derived from wine, and a large quantity of it intoxicates, then adding it is forbidden.
- If it is merely an artificial chemical flavor that has no relation to wine and does not intoxicate, then it is not ruled forbidden in itself. However, it is discouraged due to its resemblance to the taste of wine, which we have been commanded to avoid, and because it could be a means to developing a fondness for wine and drinking it.
