What is the ruling on an Islamic preacher or a Muslim saying "my brother" to a Christian?

If the word "brother" is used to refer to a disbeliever, and the intention is the brotherhood of religion, then it is not permissible. However, if the intention is the brotherhood of lineage to Adam, then it has been permitted. Nevertheless, it is more cautious not to address a disbeliever as "brother."
