What is the ruling on the use of hair dye for women and men?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible for men and women to dye their hair with any color of henna or other dyes, except for black, as it is disliked based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Change gray hair but do not approach black," and "Change his head with something but avoid black." Some scholars consider dyeing with black to be forbidden, and this is a valid opinion. It is sufficient that dyeing with black is disliked for it to be abandoned, and it becomes forbidden if it causes deception or fraud.
