The Salaf (early Muslims) differed on the meaning of 'al-Ma'un'. The best of what was said concerning it is the statement of 'Ikrimah: "The pinnacle of al-Ma'un is zakat on wealth, and its lowest is the sieve, the bucket, and the needle." Al-Ma'un refers to everything from which benefit is derived while its essence remains, and a calculator is among these things.
