Is it permissible to seek forgiveness and listen to the Qur’an at one and the same time?

Allah Almighty's command in the verse: "And when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy," is specific to prayer. Therefore, one is not required to listen intently to the recitation of the Qur'an outside of prayer. There is no objection to seeking forgiveness while listening to the Qur'an, but it is preferable to focus solely on listening to the Qur'an and pondering its meanings.
