Is Zakat al-Fitr due for someone who dies on the last day of Ramadan?
Zakat al-Fitr becomes obligatory at sunset on the last day of Ramadan, i.e., upon the entry of the night of Eid al-Fitr. Therefore, whoever dies before the sunset of the night of Eid is not obligated to pay it. However, for whoever dies after it, its payment becomes obligatory on their behalf according to the majority of scholars. This is the view held by the Malikis, Hanbalis, and Shafi'is.
