Does divorce take effect once or as three pronouncements if the husband repeats the words "You are divorced" more than once at the same time, and how can the wife be taken back?

If a husband repeats the word of divorce three times or more, intending thereby to effect three divorces, then three divorces occur, and it becomes an irrevocable major divorce (baynunah kubra). She does not become lawful for him again until she marries another man. However, if he intended to emphasize, or had no intention at all, then only one divorce occurs. This is the view of the majority of scholars. In the event that fewer than three divorces occur, the husband has the right to take back his wife during her waiting period (iddah) by word or action. Some scholars, such as Ibn Taymiyyah, are of the view that successive divorces uttered before reconciliation or a new marriage contract count as only one divorce.
