What is the ruling on using virtual reality (VR) glasses that isolate the user from the real world and transport him to a virtual world?

Virtual reality glasses enable the wearer to see objects in 3D at a 360-degree angle, and the ruling on them depends on knowing their effects and the nature of their use. Due to their novelty, their full effects on the eyes, brain, and mental health are not yet known. Studies indicate potential harms such as myopia and addiction, which cause fatigue and anxiety.

To rule on the permissibility of their use, the following caveats must be observed: 1. Not using them to view Haram (forbidden) content: For whatever leads to Haram is Haram. 2. Their use should not result in harm: Based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "There should be no harm nor reciprocating harm." 3. They should not lead to addiction: Which distracts a person from the worship of Allah and wastes their time.

If they are free from these caveats, their use is permissible; otherwise, it is forbidden.
