How should this man act so that God may be pleased with him, knowing that returning the money will lead to his imprisonment, and given that this money was taken from his employer due to low wages, and that he intends to use this money to pay for the land on which he is building?

The fact that an employer pays meager wages does not permit workers to encroach upon his wealth, if they have agreed to and accepted those wages in the contract.

If your husband agreed to a low wage and received it in full, then what he took from the fodder and other items unjustly, he is obligated to return its like or its value to the employer, even through indirect means, and his accountability will not be cleared until the right is restored.

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Upon the hand is what it has taken until it renders it." He also said: "Whoever has wronged his brother concerning his honor or anything, let him seek his forgiveness today before there are no dinars or dirhams."

Unlawfully acquired money must be immediately disbursed and returned to its owner or his heirs, or to the ruler if that is not possible.
