What should a woman do when she recites supplications (du’as) specific to men, such as: "O Allah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your female slave (amatik)"? And how should she act regarding supplications designated for men? What is the criterion she should follow in this regard? What do "amatik" (Your female slave) and "abdik" (Your slave) mean, and is there a difference between them? And what does "ibn amatik" (son of Your female slave) mean?

If a woman wishes to use a supplication (dua) that contains a masculine pronoun specific to a man, it is legislated for her to use the feminine pronoun. For example, instead of "son of Your servant" (ibn abdika), she should say: "Your female servant, daughter of Your servant, daughter of Your female servant" (amatuka ibnat abdika ibnat amatika). This rule applies to supplications such as Sayyid al-Istighfar (the master of seeking forgiveness), where a woman should change the masculine form to a feminine form that suits her. And "son of Your female servant" (ibn amatika) means son of Your owned one, for all human beings are owned by Allah; males are His servants, and females are His female servants.
