Innovations that do not reach the level of disbelief are treated like sins and transgressions. They are weighed against good deeds, and the threat of punishment may not fall upon their perpetrator due to the presence of a deterrent or the absence of a condition. For the texts of warning against disbelief and فسق (transgression) do not necessitate the affirmation of their consequence except with the fulfillment of conditions and the absence of deterrents. If a person combines good and evil, he deserves loyalty and reward in proportion to the good, and enmity and punishment in proportion to the evil. Among the reasons for the annulment or mitigation of punishment are the calamities that expiate sins.
