Is it permissible to interrupt the muezzin and speak to him during the call to prayer (adhan) for an urgent matter?

Scholars differ concerning the ruling on the muezzin speaking during the adhan. Some have permitted it absolutely, some have restricted it to instances where there is a benefit, and some have deemed it disliked absolutely.

Al-Shafi'i held that speaking during the adhan is not desirable unless there is a benefit in it. If the muezzin speaks, he does not count what he has already called before speaking.

Some jurists, such as Al-Muzani, Ibn Sirin, and Al-Sha'bi, disliked the muezzin speaking. Similarly, the Malikis dislike greeting the muezzin because it leads to him responding and interrupting the adhan.
