How can a person guide their family members toward religion, when some of them believe in superstitions and sorcery, and is it permissible to buy a ring for protection against evils, the evil eye, and envy?

"Those closest to you have the most right to your kindness, and guiding them to the truth, especially in matters of creed, is among the best things you can offer them. Wisdom, gentleness, and kindness should be sought in da'wah (inviting to Islam), and their turning away does no harm. Allah Almighty says: 'Repel [evil] with that which is better, and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.' (Fussilat: 34) You can seek help from those whose words might influence them, such as callers to Islam and students of knowledge, and frequently supplicate for their guidance. Do not stop advising them unless advice becomes ineffective and you fear a greater evil may result; in that case, silence is better. Wearing a ring to ward off evil is among the innovations and superstitions that are pretexts for shirk (polytheism)."
