What is the ruling on fitna?

The word "fitna" has several meanings, including: trial, torment, disbelief, doubt, corruption, sin, scandal, and incitement. If the intended meaning is causing corruption among Muslims and inciting some of them against others, then it is not permissible in Islamic law. This is because Islam has forbidden backbiting (namima) and encouraged unity while rejecting division. Therefore, anything that causes division, plants hatred, and corrupts relations between people is undoubtedly forbidden. Spreading corruption among people is also one of the major sins.
