The answer

A husband must spend on his wife and child in a reasonable manner. If the wife’s purchases are within the limits of the obligatory maintenance, the husband has no right to demand from her what she spent. However, if they exceed the obligatory maintenance, he has the right to demand what she spent, and the purchases then become her property. But it is better to overlook this, advise the wife to be moderate and avoid extravagance, and remind her that she is entrusted with her husband’s money and responsible for it, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “And the woman is a guardian in her husband’s house and is responsible for her charge.”
