Why doesn't the Saudi government remove the Green Dome from the Prophet's grave, if it is an innovation (bid'ah) and leads to shirk?

The Green Dome over the Prophet's grave, peace and blessings be upon him, was built in 678 AH by Sultan Qalawun. Its color changed throughout history until it settled on green by order of Sultan Abdul Hamid of the Ottoman Empire in 1253 AH. The construction of this dome and similar structures over graves is forbidden by Islamic law, and scholars and researchers have long denounced it. It did not exist during the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor his companions. It is considered an innovation that contradicts the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and opens the door to extremism and polytheism. Its continued existence until now is due to averting potential discord, and not an indication of its permissibility. Rulers must remove it whenever the opportunity arises without causing greater discord.
