To what extent is the hadith authentic: "Our Lord marvels at the despair of His servants and the proximity of His changes. He looks at you, desperate and despondent, and continues to laugh, knowing that your relief is near"?

The Hadith that narrates Allah's laughter at His servants' despair and the imminent change in their circumstances has a weak chain of transmission (Isnad), as its narrators are unknown. However, Ibn Taymiyyah and Al-Albani deemed it hasan (good), and Ibn al-Qayyim strongly supported this view, pointing out that the Hadith is great and magnificent and was accepted by the imams of Ahl al-Sunnah. The laughter in the Hadith is interpreted as Allah's astonishment at people's despair during hardship, even though relief and a change in circumstances are near. The Hadith affirms the attributes of laughter and wonder (or astonishment) for Allah Almighty, both of which befit His essence and majesty. Allah's wonder does not arise from concealment or ignorance; rather, it is a meaning that occurs according to His will and wisdom when a matter deserves wonder, and it is among the effects of His mercy and perfection, Exalted be He.
