What is the way out for someone to whom the verses "And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], 'If He gives us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous.' But when He gave them from His bounty, they withheld it and turned away, while they were refusing. So He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they will meet Him—because they broke what they promised Allah and because they lied" apply due to ignorance and heedlessness?

It is obligatory for a servant to fulfill their covenant with Allah. Some scholars have associated covenants with vows. The way out of breaking a covenant with Allah is repentance, for it is beneficial for every sin, even disbelief and hypocrisy, as Allah Almighty says: "Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease, what has passed will be forgiven for them. But if they return, then the custom of the former peoples has already passed." As for repentance from hypocrisy, Allah has encouraged it and accepted it from those who are sincere in it and abandon hypocrisy, in fulfillment of His saying: "Except for those who repent and correct themselves and hold fast to Allah and make their religion sincerely for Allah – those will be with the believers. And Allah is going to give the believers a great reward."
