What is the best methodology for memorizing legal texts: Is it better to memorize texts of all levels for each discipline (such as memorizing Al-Ajurrumiyyah, Al-Milhah, and Al-Alfiyyah in grammar), or is it sufficient to memorize one comprehensive text and rely on studying and explaining the other texts, and does the matter differ depending on the science?

The chosen path for the student of knowledge in memorization is to memorize an abridged text in each discipline to serve as a foundation upon which to build all other chapters and issues of that discipline. Then, if they wish to specialize in a particular discipline, they should memorize a recognized 'Alfiyyah' (a didactic poem of one thousand lines) in it. Attention must be given to the abridged texts that have been relied upon by scholars and around which most commentaries revolve, for they encompass a great deal of knowledge and enable the student to master important fundamentals.
