What is the legitimate legal ruling for someone who said to his wife, "I will divorce you if my daughter Israa goes to school," while he was agitated, and now he wants his daughter to return to school?

The phrase could mean either suspending divorce on the girl going to school, or a promise of divorce. If it is a promise, divorce does not occur. However, if it is a suspension, it occurs according to the majority of scholars, while Ibn Taymiyyah holds that an expiation for an oath is due. The daughter should be allowed to study.
