What is the ruling on saying: "O Allah, protect me from all people for the sake of 'Qul a'udhu bi Rabb an-Nas' (Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind)?"

The permissible kind is through His names and attributes, good deeds, and the supplication of a righteous, living, and capable man. As for the forbidden kind, it is that which Allah has not made a means, such as the high status (jah) of a created being. The Quran is the word of Allah and one of His attributes. Therefore, intercession through it or through a from it is permissible because it is intercession through one of Allah's attributes, and intercession through Allah's names and attributes is permissible. It is preferable for the questioner to say: "O Allah, I ask You by Your word" or "by the Quran."
