What is the meaning of "Teach your children trade, and do not teach them leasing," and is this Hadith authentic?

The phrase, "Teach your children trade, and do not teach them wage-earning (ijarah)," is not a hadith, and the prohibition against teaching work through wage-earning is not established. Ijarah (leasing/wage-earning) is permissible by the Qur'an, Sunnah, and scholarly consensus (ijma'), and it is essential for human welfare. The well-being of the world necessitates the existence of both trade and ijarah. Prophets of Allah, such as Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), engaged in it; the latter herded sheep for the people of Mecca for a few Qirat. However, trade is superior, more profitable, and grants greater independence, especially for a student of knowledge.
