What is the ruling on the Sufis' practice of what is called "ar-Rabita" after the Maghrib prayer, where the Sufi imagines the image of the Sheikh of the Tariqa and seeks forgiveness, with their belief that it purifies the heart?

Du'a (supplication) is a great act of worship, but its etiquette must be observed. This includes not transgressing in it by inventing unlawful supplications and treating them as legitimate litanies. The "Rabita litany" or "Rabita supplication" is a common supplication among some Sufi orders. Its wording is not objectionable, but its problem lies in adopting it as a fixed, regular litany in a specific manner that has no basis in the Sunnah. This falls under innovation (bid'ah). Furthermore, this litany may lead to transforming the bond of faith into partisan or sectarian affiliation, which contradicts the objectives of Sharia. There is no evidence from the Qur'an or Sunnah for the legitimacy of "Rabita" in the sense promoted by some, and using religious texts to justify it is a distortion of words from their proper contexts.
