The wife has the right to a separate dwelling, and it is not permissible for the husband to house his relatives with him without her permission and consent. He must house his mother if she is in need, but in a separate dwelling unless the wife consents. If the husband's mother lives in her home country and is self-sufficient, the husband is not obliged to bring her to live with him. Rather, his duty is to show her kindness and spend on her if she is in need. If she needs to relocate, the husband must provide a separate dwelling for her. If the husband insists on moving her and the wife agrees to live with her temporarily, this is an act of wisdom to avoid spoiling the marital relationship.
