What is the takhrij of the hadith in which the wife of a Companion complained to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, because her husband would wake up for Fajr prayer at sunrise, and he apologized by saying that he belonged to a people who do not wake up except when the sun is hot, and who is this Companion?
Abu Dawud and Ahmad narrated from Abu Sa'id that a woman complained to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about her husband, Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal, saying that he beats her when she prays, makes her break her fast when she fasts, and does not pray Fajr until the sun rises. Safwan responded that she recites two surahs, and he had forbidden her from doing so, and that she fasts while he is young and cannot bear it, and that they are a household that does not wake up until after sunrise. The Prophet then commanded him to pray when he wakes up. Al-Albani and Al-Hakim ruled the hadith authentic. Scholars interpreted his delay in prayer as either being dominant in his nature or occurring sometimes due to the lack of someone to wake him up.
