The answer

The , "For whoever I am his mawla, Ali is his mawla. O Allah, befriend whoever befriends him, and be an enemy to whoever is an enemy to him," was authenticated by Al-Hakim, Al-Albani, and Al-Arna'ut. Its meaning is: love whoever loves him and support whoever supports him. Al-Bayhaqi mentioned that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said it when complaints about Ali became numerous in Yemen. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, therefore wished to show his love for Ali and call people to love and support him and abandon enmity towards him. What is meant by it is the wala' (loyalty/allegiance) of Islam and affection among Muslims. This is in line with the saying of Ali, may Allah be pleased with him: "None loves me but a believer, and none hates me but a hypocrite."
