What is the ruling on acting and singing, and are they forbidden given the Hadith about Anjashah and the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying, "Deal gently with the crystal vessels," and given the differing opinions of Ibn al-Qayyim concerning them, and if listening to songs does not affect the listener?

We have previously discussed the ruling on singing and acting, and what is permissible and impermissible of them. The story of Anjashah pertains to chanting and camel-driving songs (hadw) without musical instruments. Ibn al-Qayyim did not permit singing accompanied by musical instruments, but rather chanting and hadw. Prohibited singing is haram whether it breeds hypocrisy or not, but it is rare for someone infatuated with it to be devoid of the characteristics of hypocrites.
