What is the scientific wisdom behind legislating the marriage of a thrice-divorced woman to another man so that she may become lawful for her first husband?
What Allah has legislated for His servants is good for them and beneficial in the affairs of their worldly life and their afterlife. However, there is no necessity for a scientific truth behind every divine legislation, as there is no text to prove that, and benefits are not limited to purely worldly ones. An example of this is the legislation that prohibits a woman from returning to her husband after the third divorce until she marries another man. This is because divorce is a serious matter that leads to the disintegration of the family, and this legislation came to deter those who trifle with Allah's verses, those who take divorce lightly. The husband then feels the enormity of his act of trifling with Allah's verses. This does not negate the existence of a scientific benefit behind every legislation, but it negates the inevitability of its existence or making faith dependent on it. What is obligatory upon a Muslim is to adhere to Allah's command even if he does not comprehend the wisdom behind it. One must be wary of listening to those who malign the religion.
