What is the appropriate and Sharia-compliant solution for a committed young man who has memorized the Qur'an and wishes to marry a woman who will help him review the Qur'an and share his life, but his financial circumstances prevent him from doing so?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, guided young people who are capable of marriage to do so, because it is more protective of one’s chastity and more lowering of one’s gaze. As for those who are not capable, they should fast, for it is a shield and beneficial, especially if accompanied by abundant acts of obedience and patience. The fundamental basis for a couple’s choice of each other is religion. If someone whose religiosity and character you approve of comes to you, then marry them, otherwise, there will be widespread tribulation and corruption. A woman is married for four reasons: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty, and for her religion. So, choose the one with religion. Among the rights of the bride upon the husband are: the dowry, maintenance, and housing. If the husband can provide the requirements of marriage, he should choose a woman of religion and good character. If his financial circumstances prevent him from marrying, then the only solution is for the woman to help him by giving him something with which to pay her dowry, or to accept a deferred dowry and waive her right to maintenance. If she does not accept, the only solution is fasting, for if there were another solution, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would have guided to it.
