Is one obligated to relinquish his right to avoid conflict, or to defend it, even if that leads to fighting and litigation?

Fighting between a Muslim and his Muslim brother is among the greatest prohibitions. Forgiveness and pardon of some rights, for the sake of kinship, is better. If he does not concede, the matter should be taken to court without fighting. The Hadith, "He who comes intending to take my property?" means that defending one's property is permissible, not obligatory. Leaving it for the sake of kinship is more beloved to Allah, for kinship is a cause of increased provision and blessings.
