Is reading the daily prescribed supplications (ma'thurat) in a group an innovation (bid‘ah)? Thank you.
Scholars hold various opinions regarding congregational (remembrance of Allah). Some consider dhikr gatherings to be gatherings of knowledge ( and ), while Imam Malik disliked gathering for dhikr. Imam Ahmad, on the other hand, disliked it if it became a regular custom. Ibn Taymiyyah held that gathering for recitation, dhikr, and supplication is good, as long as it does not become a fixed or is accompanied by any forbidden acts. Al-Shatibi considered dhikr in a single voice to be an innovation. In contrast, Imam Al-Nawawi recommended sitting in dhikr circles, citing hadiths such as: "No group of people gather to remember Allah except that angels surround them..." As for gathering to recite "Al-Ma'thurat" (prescribed remembrances), there is no harm in it, as long as it does not become a fixed habit or is accompanied by something forbidden, such as congregational dhikr in a single voice.
