Are parents to be obeyed in everything, such as clothing and food? Is it permissible not to fast Sha'ban without an excuse to please them? Is disobedience to them in some matters that do not cause them distress considered an act of defiance?

Obedience to parents is obligatory if their command has a legitimate purpose, does not involve disobedience to Allah, and does not cause harm to the child. This obedience includes matters related to dress and food, as well as refraining from supererogatory fasting. However, if they do not insist on the matter and their disagreement does not cause them distress, it is not considered an act of disobedience.
