The answer

If you utter a clear statement of divorce, understanding what you are saying, then the divorce takes effect whether you intended it to or not, and whether you were serious or joking. However, repeating the word of divorce without intending to issue more than one pronouncement only results in a single pronouncement. If this pronouncement does not complete the three, you may take your wife back during her waiting period (iddah).
