What is unlawful to look at is also unlawful to look at its image, because the prohibited gaze was forbidden out of fear of temptation (fitnah) and lust (shahwah), and this is present when looking at images. The opinion that it is permissible to look at an image of the 'awrah (private parts) is weak and outweighed. For films to be permissible to watch, they must be free of শরী'আহ prohibitions; it is not enough for good to outweigh evil. Musical instruments (ma'azif) are forbidden by consensus.
