It is preferable for a Muslim to initiate a greeting with "Salam" (peace) and there is no harm in adding other phrases like "Good morning" afterwards. However, if one does not begin with "Salam" and suffices with other greetings, there is no sin upon him.

A Muslim should strive to speak Arabic as much as possible if the addressed individuals understand it, for it is the language of the Quran and Sunnah, and it is the best of languages. However, if the addressed individuals do not understand it, there is no harm in speaking to them in their language.

The Imams, including Imam Al-Shafi'i and Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, disliked speaking in non-Arabic languages unnecessarily for those who are proficient in Arabic, especially in matters of Islamic law, as Arabic is the emblem of Islam and its people. Thus, the Arabic language is a tongue that a Muslim is more deserving of learning, and there is no harm in speaking other languages when there is a need. And Allah knows best.
