Is likening God to humans considered a degradation of His status and a mockery of Him?

The fundamental principle is that likening Allah to humans constitutes disbelief (kufr) because it likens the Creator to deficient creation, and it involves disparagement of the Creator, Glorified be He. Al-Tahawi said: "Whoever hears it and claims it is the speech of humans has disbelieved... And whoever describes Allah with any human attribute has disbelieved." And Nu'aym ibn Hammad said: "Whoever likens Allah to His creation has disbelieved." However, one should not rush to declare someone an unbeliever based on this, as some may not grasp the meaning of similitude or may not intend it.
